A new era of connectivity for Wallis and Futuna

2025-01-29

Orange Wholesale is thrilled to unveil the Nuanua project, which means "rainbow" in Wallisian. This initiative aims to revolutionize the satellite infrastructure of the Wallis and Futuna Islands, enabling Orange to deliver high-performance connectivity services,  thanks to SES’s innovative second-generation medium Earth orbit (MEO) O3b mPOWER system.

Enhancing connectivity for the archipelago

The Nuanua project promises sustainable connectivity for the archipelago, enhancing internet access for nearly 12,000 residents. By integrating advanced satellite technology, this initiative will complement the existing submarine network, significantly improving resilience and diversity in connectivity.

Commitment to digital sovereignty and environmental responsibility

As the operator of external communications in Wallis and Futuna, Orange, through its subsidiary Orange Wallis & Futuna, is committed to strengthening the region's digital sovereignty. Co-financed by the European Union under the "Connecting Europe Facilities - Digital" programme, this project underscores Orange's dedication to connecting remote territories and fostering economic growth.

Jean-Louis Le Roux, President of Orange Wallis and Futuna, emphasizes the project’s significance in modernizing infrastructure and supporting the digital economy. Nadine Allen, Global Head of Enterprise & Cloud for SES, expresses excitement about partnering with Orange to enhance digital inclusion in the Pacific.

The project, expected to be operational by mid-2025, will also incorporate solar panels to minimize the carbon footprint, reflecting a responsible approach to environmental sustainability.
