Today, Orange announces the creation of a Joint Venture to deliver Pisces: a new subsea cable set to directly connect Ireland to continental Europe, reinforcing one of the strategic corridors. The cable deployment is expected in 2028 and aims to reinforce Europe’s digital resilience and sovereignty.
Stretching approximately 3,125 km, Pisces will connect Galway, Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, Sopelana and Carcavelos linking Ireland directly to France, Spain and Portugal, without transiting through the United Kingdom. With 16 fibre pairs, it will offer Ireland's cloud, datacenters and AI ecosystem a new, direct, high-capacity, resilient route to continental Europe. Already underway, Orange Marine and Elettra Ltd completed the survey last August
Pisces is delivered through a joint venture bringing together Equitix, Europe's leading infrastructure investor, MDM, an Irish subsea cable developer, and Orange. The project benefits from significant funding support from the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility program.
As AI spreads compute capacity across more sites, the networks connecting them become as critical as the data centres themselves. Pisces adds capacity, diversifies routes and strengthens resilience along a corridor that matters for Europe's digital ecosystem.
